Did you upgrade over the previous OS or did you do a clean install?

Upgrades are usually not recommended, also I have heard that an upgrade from ME to XP is one of the most troublesome upgrade there is.

Yup... I've tried a couple ME to XP upgrades with poor results (including my own machines). The problems may not be visible at first, but if you check the event viewer on these upgrades, there is usually an abundance of problems.

I highly doubt that the service pack will fix the problem; your best bet is to backup your data and shoot for a clean install, which can be done with the XP upgrade disk, so long as you can provide a qualifying product for the XP upgrade.
