Question Windows XP Home problem's !!!!

Hi All!!

My buddy just baught a bran new VBR Matrix computer from Best Buy, its a Pent. 4 1.8gig, 512meg of PC2100 Ram, 60gig WD Hard drive, And Window's XP Home installed. My question is when i go to the system config. utility and try to uncheck the crap that he doesnt need to start with Windows (Winamp, Real Player, ect..) I mean Everything in that list is checked!!. But when i try and uncheck those ones he does'nt need the machine reboots to a blank destktop, no icon's nothing. Nothing I unchecked was Microsoft XP stuff just with the app's that we didnt want to load at startup. So i have to go to safe mode and recheck everthing. And the Desktop is back to normal. Anyone why this is happening? or another way to get rid of apps from starting all the time. My XP Pro i uncheck that stuff and there's no problem at all. Another thing is EVERYWERE you look there's a Best Buy Logo!! like to get rid of that too, but that might be in the XP Home thats loaded By Best Buy. Dont know really..

Thank's for your time!!

Nem.......

If you have the time just go through the startup and uncheck the apps one at a time until you find what is causing the problem.

My dad uses XP Home too, when he installed it, he had a blank desktop too. (And YES, he owns a legal version of it, so it's not that....) Look like WinXP Home has no icons at all on the desktop standard. You need to add the links to My Computer, My Documents and stuff yourself.

But well, dunno why they disappear when you edit the launch list. You better run all these programs and in the program itself tell it not to start with Windows instead of using msconfig...

Or you could try deleting (or renaming) the registry keys
