Windows XP Pro File Sharing

I'm having a problem with file sharing in widows xp pro. I'm trying to share a folder over the network so that everyone can access it and copy files from it. I am able to see everyone else on the network and copy files from their shared folders, but when they try to copy from mine, it says that it cannot copy and to make sure that the disk is not write protected and the file is not open. The files they're trying to copy are not open or running when they try to copy. Is there a way to fix this?

What kind of Network? Domain or Peer-to-Peer?

You set both the Sharing permissions and the Security settings?
