Hi millard_j1,

Is this for the existing hard drive (add partitions and format) or for a added hard drive?

Depends on what you mean by "format the hard drive." You can reinstall Windows XP and that will wipe everything on the drive and partition that XP is on. If you want to format a drive other than the one XP is on, right click on "My Computer," click on "Manage," and then click on "Disk Management." That will show a list of your drives and allow you to format them.

First, boot from your Windows XP CD, select to install Windows XP on the partition that carrently has XP on it, and select to format it (during setup)
Then, after installing XP, open Windows Explorer, right click every other partition you want to format and select format.

You actually have 4 options to format the drive.

  1. Quick Format NTFS
  2. Quick Format FAT32
  3. Format NTFS
  4. Format FAT32

The quick format goes quite a bit faster and should be used unless an error is encountered.
