What do you dual booters use? I have another hard drive on the way that i will use for dual booting and to try and rid myself of some issues that I can't resolve. Right now I have XP on an 18GB scsi and will dual boot on maxtor IDE. Just trying to decide what config to go with.
I know it's mostly personal preference but i'd like input fomr those that are doing it now and what you feel are the pros and cons of why you decided. I haven't done it before so I'm trying to decide the best route. oosik

I have had multi-boot configurations on my PC running .NET, XP PRO, 2000 PRO and 2000 Server with 2 HDD’s, but right now just XP PRO. My wife’s PC has XP Home, XP PRO, 2000 PRO and 2000 Advanced Server on 2 drives. The kid has ME and 2000 PRO and soon ME will be replaced with XP PRO. I have Mandrake install on another HDD that I change the IDE cable and I’m running Mandrake. The Server and .NET are for some courses I’m taking, I hate sitting out on campus when I could be at home doing my lab assignments.
Good to see both Hpro and Reboot back at PCMech

I use a XP Pro/Me dual boot. I only use ME for games and for a scanner that XP doesn't like. If you are not a gamer or have hardware that isn't compatible with XP there is no reason to run a dual boot unless you like Linux

Multiple drives/partitions, although the first partition on each drive is for a Windows OS (3 drives) and then Linux on another partition.
Start with Win95 on E, (not used much), Win98 on D, then XP on C, then Linux (I prefer the boot loader of Linux to any other). Currently I have Drives/partitions C through M, with the CD as R, and the burner as W. (150gb total) I also have an old ISA SCSI card that XP won't use (for the scanner), and I'd dump 95 if I didn't have to support it for customers. Last edited by reboot; 10-09-2002 at 11:02 AM. |

so what's the best course of action to installing two OSes, XP first then the others?
I'm thinking XP, 2K, ME in that order on one drive? Or should I replace ME with 98SE? Or is ME a 98SE-SE? thanks! |

With MS OSs, the usual practice is to install the oldest OS first e.g. Win98 and then XP, or W2K and then XP.
Don't know about other OSs. |

Install the oldest MS OS first, then work your way to the newest, then add Linux/BeOS/whatever last.
