Sound stopped working for NO reason...
If I go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds and Multimedia and click on the "Show volume control on the taskbar", I get an error message saying:

Have you tried removing the soundcard from the device manager and rebooting?

Have you installed/uninstalled any new hardware/software lately? Have you also scanned for viruses lately? HTH

No new hardware, Yes scanned for viruses.
It turns out that it's a hardware problem. Either my speakers or my card. Case closed, thanks guys. |

I had that happen, and I just went to another working computer and went into the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder and found the files called sndrec32 and sndvol32. I copied them onto a floppy, and then put them in the exact same location on my computer and it started working again. How they disappeared in the first place was a mystery to me.

Sorry, I'm used to video game boards, where even posts on the second page most likely were posted within 5 minutes of each other.
