windows XP installation hangs

ive just tried re-installing winXP on my system after a format. i have the boot sequence set ot cdrom, so the setup program executes, i get a blue screen with details on files being copied (device drivers, genric drivers etc) displayed on a grey bar at the bottom of the screen, however, once the files seem to finish, it displays the message 'starting windows...' in th bar, then flicks to a black screen and hangs. ive tried this about 11 times now, no change. ne ideas?

(ive installed twice before about 3 months ago, no problems then)

k7vza mobo
athlon t-bird 1.2
geforce 4 ti4200 128ddr
20 gig hd 5400prm

Turn off the BIOS Anti-virus checking.
Set PnP OS to NO.
Re-fdisk the drive maybe even.
