Getting rid of WinXP Pro

I have a laptop that dual boots XP Home and XP Pro. I no longer want XP Pro on the machine as I hardly ever use it. Anyway, how do I get rid of XP Pro. I've tried formatting the partition through XP Home (i.e right-click on drive and select format) but after restarting, I still get the dual-boot screen with Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home. How do I get rid of XP Pro and not get the dual-boot screen anymore? Thanks a lot!

Boot into the Home version and the go to system properties > advanced > Startup and Recovery “Settings” and select the “Edit” button and remove the line that has XP Professional in it and save, exit system properties and reboot.

Example of the line to remove: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

*Note the number for the partition may differ, but that’s OK.

Ok, I did that but now when I start up I get a chose between:

Windows XP Home Edition or
Windows(default)

Is there a way to correct this?

When you edited out the line that referred to XP PRO was there another line that had “Windows Default”. If so you may have to edit out that line as well.

All you should have left is one line that reads:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

Ok, this is what is displayed when I hit edit:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

Should I take out that line with default in it as well? Just wanted to ask since it is not listed under operating systems, but rather boot loader...don't want to mess anything up.

Press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key together. In the box that opens click the Advanced tab and the Startup/Recovery button. In the box that opens make sure that the correct version of the operating system is listed by default and remove the tick from the box for "Display list of operating systems for"
