windows 98 slowdown
hey guys,
i'm using a windows 98se machine, and it is running extremely slow. when i click on the start menu, it takes about 5 seconds to pop up. i removed all non-essential stuff from the startup through msconfig. it's running on a netware network. it is just taking forever. i thought at first maybe findfast was doing it, but it isn't even installed. any one have any ideas?

homer15,
How much ram does it have? This machine I use at work loaded with all kinds of software and running Win98, only had 32mb ram. I complained, they put 32mb more, speed is 50% increased. This thing has a Intel 300, BTW. Carl |

When was the last time you ran scandisk and defraged? I had that as part of weekly maintenance when I was running WIN98.

i thought about ram, but the resources are like 95% free. i ran scandisk and defrag to no avail. turns out the problem was a corrupted shortcut in the startmenu. i deleted it, and the problem stopped. thanks guys.
