CRASH Win2K Professional problem

I have a weird little problem with a Win2K machine. I got a "Critical Update" notice this morning, and routinely installed it. Problem is, now the keyboard will not function at the logon screen. No mouse either. The keyboard works fine before the screen comes up. I have tried every Safe Mode possible, as well as Last Known Good configuration, but all for nothing.

I am betting that some installer is getting hung up at that point. I am thinking of slaving the HD to a good computer and editing the registry, deleting everything in the RunOnce key that looks suspicious. Feasible? Do I need an external registry editor, or can I use either regedit or regedt32 (I can't seem to find any option in either to just open a .DAT registry file and edit that)? Thanks.

Nope, you can't open the registry that way - time to boot with the 2K cd and do a repair.

Rats. Hoping there was some utility to do that. Oh, well, I will see what I can do. Hopefully, the IS people have a Win2K cd around (this is a PC at work). Thanks, glc.
