PictureIt won't start on XP or 2000

a school that I do some part-time network work for just insalled some XP computers and then installed Microsoft PictureIT! on some of them. The program works fine for someone who logs on as an administrator, but when students try to run it, it gives an error message and won't start. All other software works fine for the students

There must be some access setting that needs to be changed someplace. Where is it?

It is a similar problem to trying to get Office97 to run on XP. The first thing to try is to change the permissions on the Office directory to everyone Read-Execute and List. Sometimes you might have to change the permissions on the System32 folder also.

Hi jepeters,

Same thing happened to us at work.

We were using WinNT4 and requested photo editing software to manipulate digital images for presentations. The I.T. staff got us MS Picture It (I have no idea why). After the staff installed the software they could access the program but we couldn't unless they gave us administrative access.

We recently upgraded to Win2000 but the I.T. staff didn't reinstall Picture It, they got us Adobe Photo Shop LE instead.

I HAD changed the permissions to the MS PictureIt folder earlier (as well as MS Office). I went back and changed permissions on the System32 folder, but they still can't get in.

Any other suggestions? We really want to be able to use this program without having to log in for the students so they end up with Administrator rights.
