Windows 2000 Local Networking Problem
I set up a new computer at home with Windows 2000 and connect it to the old home computer running Windows 98 via a Hub.
On the new computer, I can see the old computer and open its folders. On the old computer, using Network Neighbourhood, I can see the new computer but when I double on the icon of the new computer I got the dialog box asking for password. I enter the administrator password for the new computer but it does not work. I tried entering the user password but it also does not work. In other words, I cannot access the new computer from the old computer. How can I set the password for the new computer to allow access from the old computer?

WSW, you need to set up a user and password on the W2K machine, on mine, I used the same name and password that I use to log on to the Win98 machine.

Yep, set up a user and password on the 2k box that match the user and password that you log on to the 98 box with. Which means, BTW, that you WILL have to enter a user name and password on the 98 box, I know most people just hit enter at the logon screen. No blank password box either, it won't work in 2k.

Blank password will work, Jenni - as long as you leave it blank in 2K's User Manager too.
You also have to share the 2K drive - the default share (denoted as C$) is a system share which is not user accessible. You have to click "new share". |

Thank you all for your quick responses and suggestions.
I followed all your advices and created a new user and password. I also created a new share folder "Public". Everythings seems to work exactly as you all suggested. My old Windows 98 machine can now access the share "Public" folder.
