Unhappy defrag problem

I have a computer running windows 98se and the computer is having problems using defrag. I have shut off the virus scan and screen saver, and tried in safe mode. The defrag program just seems to get stuck, it goes from 0% to 1% back to 0% in a constant "loop". Any ideas would be great. Also if I try scan disk I get BSD Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 0028:c1c624c2 in VXD VDHCP (03)+0000155B????

Hi Chazwurth...

Have you recently upgraded to 98se?... if you have, check out http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;Q306324& for further info... if not, have you made any recent changes to your system or OS?

also, check http://support.microsoft.com/default...msg/kbfe0e.asp for information on other possible causes

Good luck

The system has not changed at all, no new hardware, or software. I have not tried to defrag in several months. I also could not find the fatal exception code in the above link. Any other ideas??

Obtain the file defrag.exe from Win ME. Should be able to find it on Google. It works one heck of a lot better.

Did you try disk scan first?

Hello,
I had the same symptoms, but once it was because my mobo's limited resources couldn't handle the new 32meg vid card i had installed. I removed the card and all was cool.
The other time was the other day and I finally ran a diagnostic fix it program that came on floppy with my WD hard drive and that fixed it for whatever reason.
Maybe, and I am guessing, there is something amiss with your vid card?
Good luck
