Boom Win98 and all of C:\ gone?

I have reinstalled and virus checked this Win98 PC two times in a week. It will lose it's system files, sometimes all files, while on aol. Does this sound like a virus or some kind of attack? It is a PII 400 with 64 MB sdram and a modem/dialup connection. This last time, it crashed when I was downloading the latest virus definitions from Symantec. I was connected through Aol. Any ideas?

Sounds like a virus to me.
Either that or you have a defective harddrive. The next time your connected try going to www.trend.com and use the free online virus scan.
