mic volume

the volume of my mic is very low. I have to shout into it when I talk to people online so they can hear me. I turned the volume as high as it can go in sound properties.

Is this a mic problem or can I fix it in windows?

go...

volume control > options > properties > recording > OK

the adjust the mic volume one the recording menu

the menu changes the input volume
where the normal volume menu changes only the output that YOU hear

there usually is a 'mic boost" in your volume control panel. Make it show Advanced controls, and then look for an extra little setting in your mic volume section. It should be a checkbox for mic boost or something similar. (this has helped me with that same problem)
