I would think that you may have to format your hard disk and then do a complete install of Win98. Formatting the hard drive will remove ME from your computer. I am not sure but you may need to install the system files from a Win98 boot disk because the system files that ME install at installation maybe a different version than 98. and you may not be able to install win 98 with those system files installed. But I would first try to do a clean install of win98 after formatting the hard drive. Better to install direct from your CD ROM drive. Go into your BIOS setup and change the boot sequence to CD ROM. Make sure you have installed the CD Rom drivers first. Good luck. I have ME on this computer and I have thought about reverting back to 98 but haven't done so as yet. Let me know how you go.

with win98 you can boot the the startup disk>start with cd rom support>the FDISK>format the HD>

then go to the cd drive should be E:\ and type in setup> then it will start the win98

OR

If the HD is allready formatted the just change the boot sequence to cd first and insert the win98 cd and start up the disk should be bootable and it will install the drivers needed for the cd rom.

Windows ME was the worst OS I ever used, and I've used them all ... do yourself a really big favor, and get Windows XP, a really great and user friendly OS :-)
