XP won't turn power off automatically

Hi,

I recently reinstalled Windows XP. I did a clean install. My problem is that when I shut down the computer, I now have to press the power button to turn off the power. How do I get the computer to automtically turn off the power when I click on shut down. Thank you.

I am running XP Home. I have an Intel P-3 500Mhz with 512 mb RAM. Soundblaster Live, NVidia Riva TNT2 model 64 video card. WD 10 Gig HD. Linksys 10/100 LAN card. The computer shut off automatically until I reinstalled windows. Thanks.

or it might be this

Try going to the advanced power management settings.(right click on the desktop and go to settings) Look for the APM feature. I think It is turned off by XP when it thinks your power supply is not able to handle a shutdown.

Thanks, I just found the answer on Microsoft's website. I had to enable advanced power management support under power options in the control panel. Thanks for your help.
