XP Home volume question.

This is a question that was passed on to me from my sister at college. She's running XP Home on a toshiba laptop, and she says after every mp3 she plays the "wave volume" drops to 0 and she has to move the slider back up. I assume she means the wave balance slider in the volume properties "play control" option screen. Anyone know a cause or solution to this? I've seen it in the past on a friends computer as well. Thanks

Wonder if it's heat related? Highly un-likely...

Or may be it will be fixed with SP2, but kidding aside what other media apps does she use? I had a problem once in which an older version of PowerDVD would not only change the volume setting it would also change the speaker setup as well, might check the other media apps to see if one of them might be changing the system volume.

For the record, I have always had that problem (not that severe though) with WinAmp, and even the new Winapm3. After starting a playlist, everything would go fine, until i clicked on Winamp again i.e to skip a song or even just stop a song. The balance would then be slightly to the right and that inturn would cause the loudness to go down. I had to move my Wave slider in Volume Controls up or down to bring it back to normal. It doesn't actually change the position of the wave slider, I can even move the wave down and the balance and volume would be restored. Its like there is a flawed compatibility between Winamp and DirectSound (although it happens with DirectSound disabled in Winamp too). No amount of sound driver upgrades ever helps, and the problem is only with Winamp/WInamp3. Too bad it's my favorite .mp3 player

Yup, I agree with Dilly...seems that any time you change a setting in Winamp (or even load it), it takes over your windows sound settings. When closed, you need to readjust all the settings.
This only happens in a small number of cases, and is documented somewhere on the winamp site...something to do with the brand of sound card I think...
