A friend of mine asked me to look over his Compaq Presario 1200 notebook. It's been getting errors like API input error socket blah, blah. When this error happened to me, I hit the 'ol three finger salute (control, alt, delete) the dialog box lists multiple Explorer(s). I "end task them" all but one, then, all is O.K. However, upon first boot I have found that ME loads with two "Explorers". If you don't "end task" the multiple explorers (leaving one up), they keep loading until the error boxes fill the screen. One pops up every 10-15 seconds. Prettty weird. I'd like to give his notebook back to him all fixed, but, this one eludes me. The cd rom doesn't work, other wise I'd just fdisk and reformat the whole system. I am tempted to take the HD out and load it through my desktop system, but what a pain. Need some help please! ThanX!

Have you checked in msconfig to see what all is being loaded at startup?

I seem to remember this happening before with another system, I may be wrong but have you tried running a virus scan with the lastest definitions from Macaffe? I have had problems with their virus programs before. Norton has a free online virus check at their website, might not be a bad idea to check it out.

ThanX tireman. If this was my system, Macaffee would have never been installed. Norton a/v has never done me wrong. I didn't know that they had a free online virus check. I just might do that. Thank you!
