C:\Favorites\Favorites (folder in folder)

Some time ago when I was, ( as I am now), transferring files into a new computer, someone gave me the answer to this problem of a folder within a folder caused by drag & dropping files from a removable disc. Can't find the reply in search.
When I try to d&d the nested folder into the parent folder I
get msg: 'can't do- destination same as source'. HELP !
Thanks,
Chris

Just drag the contents of the folder into the parent folder. click on "select all" and drag them over and drop em.

Thanks but its still not working. I highlighted the nested folder , Edit - ' select all', and still get message 'destination folder same as source- cannot move' when I drop it on the parent folder.

Just so we are on the same page. You only highlite the files in the folder, not the folder it's self. You would have opened the folder to do this.
Is that what you are doing?

Yes , TEEB you'll have to give it to me real simple ! Sorry to be so slow. I am opening the parent folder, and then highlighting the other 'nested' one that is inside. I then try to drag the 2nd\nested one onto the 1st \parent one. At no time am I opening the 2nd \nested\inside one and seeing the contents with the individual folders like My pictures etc.
What am I doing wrong ?
Chris

The best way to help is to tell you that you must be highlighting FILES and not the Folder. Open the Folder that you want to move the files from and then highlight ALL the files in that Folder. The drag them over to the Folder that you want to drop them into.

I hope I have been clear with my instructions?

Hi Parangles,

Use Windows Explorer and open the child folder in the right-hand pane so you can see all the files. Highlight them all, hold down the right mouse button and drag them C:\Windows\Favourites in the left-hand pane.

When you release the right-hand mouse button you will get an option which includes copy or move. Choose move and that should move the shortcuts in the Parent folder.

I think the problem is trying to move the child folder to the parent folder when they both have the same name.

HTH

I think your right Mike. I'm having trouble getting my idea across. I was assuming he was using windows explorer, maybe that was my mistake

Ack Mike it was the Caledonian language that worked ! I cannay understand these Americans ! Just joking Teeb ! Thanks to both of you. I just couldn't imagine that you could highlight about 20 files and get them to drop only into one small folder, but it worked, just as you both said quite plainly.

Glad the accent helped Parangles

TEEB and I posted at the same time and were obviously coming to the same conclusion.

I can understand that accent too Parangles. I'm a Canadian of Scot/French ancestry.

I'm just fine Mike, good to see your still around helping people out.

Just for the records- if someone does a search on this topic in the future - you have to go back and delete the duplicate\empty folder thats left behind, after your transfer the contents.
Cheers,
Chris.
