Question #2

Gawd.. must be screwed in the head... 2 questions in one day.

Same client as my other thread, NT server, several Win9x workstations, 3 Win2K workstations (just installed)

They have one machine with a fax modem and use Outlook (not express) to be able to fax from any machine thru the one workstation using the MS Fax driver. How do you set this up in Win2K (never did this before) so that the Win2K machines can fax thru the Win9X workstation.

Install the modem through networking on all machines as the default fax device.

i'm pretty sure you need to share the fax modem on the network, then go to your control panel and run the fax and printer setup wizard.

Just to clairfy this Jim... the modem is on a Win9x machine... if I go through networking on the Win2K machine, I should be able to locate, and setup a "network modem" thru networking on the Win2k machines?

I think you need to set up a network printer (the fax printer) on your win2k machine.

OK.. that makes sense, on the Win9x machine, there should be the fax printer in the printers folder which I should be able to share. I talked to the client and she said she triend to network to that, but then Win2K looks for a Win2K compatable driver which it will not find on the Win9x machine... so the question is now... where would one find the Win2K driver for the MS faxing being used in their network. It doesn't appear to be on the CD unless I'm missing it.

OK, the modem is set up as a fax on the 98 machine, and it's shared (just like a printer).
When a client machine wants to fax something, create it, and send it to the shared fax/printer. This should trigger the 98 machine to prompt for the number to dial etc...
The 2k machine(s) should not need a fax driver, just faxing software, using the shared device...am I missing something?
