anyone knows what cmmpu.exe is

does anyone know what cmmpu.exe is? i saw it running at a few pc's at a friends house (when you ctrl-alt-del once to see whats running) but he didnt know what it was there for. it is loaded at bootup (look in msconfig) windows 98 machines. can i safely turn it off? since normally only systray and explorer need to run in ctrl-alt del at bootup

Cmmpu.exe is the MPU Emulator program for C Media soundcards. It looks like it could cause problems on Win98 machines: http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;Q218608&

thanks for the info. i was a bit afraid it was a malicious exe. so there's no real need to shut it off at bootup if there arent any probs.
