arranging icons
How can I arrange my start/programmes icons into the order I want them - group them in folders etc?
And Number 2: how can I fix my desktop icons to the spot I want them in? Thanks. |

Just "right" mouse click on the start menu button, choose explorer. By using Windows Explorer you can arrange them however you want.
Click and move the desktop icons. If they keep lighing back up automaticaly then that means you have "Auto Arrange" checked off. Right mouse click on a blank spot on your desktop and choose arrange and un-check "Auto Arrange". |

Well, I tried but can't use explorer to arrange my programme icons because only a few are actually displayed in that folder (6 out of about 30).
And arranging my icons in that way doesn't work for me cos auto-arrange jumps back on every time I reboot. Can I turn it off permanently? Any more advice? |

The way you describing this, sounds like you are using NT, 2000, or XP. Also when trying the tip I gave about right mouse clicking on the "Start" button try Explore all users. What's your OS?

OK I´ve sotred my programme icons in the start-up folder but still can´t do it on the desktop as they jump back to where they were on every boot up. I´m using XP Pro.

Did you also disable "Align to grid" in in the Arrange Icons menu?
