You can't - XP has no DOS, just a command prompt. What do you need to do?

Yes, you can...sort of...
Repeatedly tap the F8 key on boot up, select "Safe mode with command prompt". Although not really DOS, it's as close as you can get. And to mimic glc, What do you need to do?

Ummmm... you ask to get into dos for XP, but your system specs list 98 as the os... i'm guessing you asked correctly, but... trying to make sure...

oh haha my sig is out of date... i made the leap to xp pro a few days ago and have been constantly tweaking my system with the help of www.tweakxp.com and www.blkviper.com xp tweak site and to no avail my performance in my favorite game(battlefield 1942) that ran FLAWLESS in win98 under full settings is now a skipping mess even though all other games run fine if not better still....my 3dmark score even jumped to 10300 from the 9950 i had in win98
so i want to reformatt my hd under the new ntfs and do a clean install of XP... |

The XP cd will do that for you, boot from it and let it run,you can format the drive with it and do a clean install using ntfs.
