Windows error message on boot up

Does anybody know what this error message is:

“While initializing Device VKD: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.”

This message popped up after installing MS Encarta Encyclopedia on a friend’s computer, though I don’t know if that was the cause.

OS is WIN98SE.

I love it when someone figures out their own answer and actually posts that they've done it!
Ron, you sure have come a long ways in the past 3 years
