printing in 2kpro

hey guys,
for some reason when i print something in windows 2000, if it is over two pages long, it condenses everything into one page. i guess it printes in layers, like page 1 is layer 1, and page 2 is layer 2, printed directly on top of layer one. it's a whole big jumble. any ideas?

it may sound simplistic but have you tried disabling the spooling to see what happens? (print properties-print directly to printer)

also, i would uninstall the printer and get the latest driver from the printer company`s website. if it is an HP, it may work better with a different driver than the one specified. i have an account that has some 6L Laser Printers but the 4L drivers work better.

i have tried disabling the spooling. i refuse to use current drivers here, because i did that just last week and it corrupted explorer, and kept me from printing anything. it would actually sieze the system.

what printer, OS are you using? networked? any proprietory software that may require a specific print language. i recently ran across a situation where a client wanted a multi-function printer from HP and the business software he uses requires the PCL 5 print language and all of HP`s multi-use printers use the PCL 3 language.

this possibly could cause the multi page overlays you`re encountering.

also, and i don`t know what brand printer you are using. i would take issue with the printer company if a new driver "corrupted" Explorer. this makes me think there is another app that is causing a conflict. fax software maybe?

just a few things i would look into.

i had asked the OS but noticed that you are using W2k.

i`d still adress the other issues though.

this is a fresh install of windows 2000 professional sp2. it is on a netware 3.12 network. the printer is an hp laserjet 4 plus. there is no fax software or any other kind of software interferring with printing. like i said, it's a fresh install.

myself, i would try some of the other HP drivers. Laserjet 4-4L even 6L. this has worked for me before under certain circumstances.

i`d even consider a re-install if the W2k is fresh.

well, the new drivers off the site i refuse to use. like i said, it corrupted explorer. twice. the first time, i thought maybe a whole bunch of other factors created the problem, so i did a clean install... then the problem occurred again. this is actually the third time this os has been loaded on this system. i could try switching the windows supplied drivers to 6l

the HP driver issue is something i`ve run across several times before myself and have heard from others it`s fairly common. not only with Laserjets but also with Deskjets. my mothers Win XP Home needs the Deskjet 610 driver but she has a Deskjet 612.

i`ve downloaded new drivers from HP countless times and have never encountered the problems you are having with them corrupting Explorer. *this* i have no explanation for but maybe HP`s tech support (if it still exists) may be able to help with.

well, i set it up to use the 6l drivers instead, and it's working great. my experience with hp's tech support has been laughable. thanks for your help, man.
