swap files

Hi!
Just about completely done with my first build, and I'm trying to use FDisk to partition HD for XP and Linux. I'm going to use NTFS for XP system files, FAT32 for interchangeable media, and REISER, ext3, XFS, ??? (I don't know which is the best) for Linux. My question is, does XP need a swap file? I know Linux does, but I don't know what it's used for. Should I partition for one or will XP (and Linux) make it's own? Also, could I have one swap file for 2 systems? I'm pretty confused still. Thanks for the help.

Well, the only think I can tell u is that Win XP will indeed make a swap file. But its dinamical, unless you wanna set its size yourself.

How big is your HD and what are the size you are planning for those partitions?

XP will create a swap file/paging file and the size will be total ram times 1.5 I would recommend a minimum partition size of 5Gb's for XP.
