Just installed windows ME 1 hour ago. All went well except my scanner doesn't work. the message is: Shell32dll file is missing. Linked to missing export SHWAPI.DLL:shecreateStream on File A

any help here?

Should I just disconnect the scanner and uninstall program
and reinstall? This is a parallel port connection along with Iomega Zip drive and Hp printer. Printer and Iomega zip worl fine. Matter a fact everything works well cept
the scanner!

Thanks, God Bless, Robert J.

Scanner will not work on ME !

I have installed and uninstalled the software programs and installed latest drivers. Sounds to me like windows is linking a file where it shouldn't making the scanner inoperative. Shell32.dll it says is linked to SHLWAPI.DLL
STREAMONFILE A

Please help!!!

Thank you, God Bless

Try using the ME software for the Scanner and Camera Wizzard. My HP scanner (USB) works fine with the ME drivers. There was no need to install the HP software. Just let ME do it's thing. Of corse, if ME does not have your scanner drivers, you probably can download what you need from the manufacturers web page.

Common problem - this is from Visioneer's support site -

An error message regarding the Shlwapi.dll or Shlwadi.dll file can be caused by a missing or corrupt file.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. From the Windows "Start" button, select "Find" and then "Files or Folders". This will open the "Find: All Files" dialog box.

2. In the "Named" field, type SHLWAPI.DLL and click the "Find Now" button. Make sure in the "Look In" field the (C drive is selected, and
the box to "Include Subfolders" is checked.

3. When the files are listed in the bottom box, right mouse click on the one that is found in the "Paprport" folder and select "Rename" from the
pop up menu. Rename the file to SHLWAPI.OLD.

4. Now right mouse click on the one that was found in the "Windows\System" folder and select "Copy" from the pop up menu.

5. Right mouse click on the Windows "Start" button, and select "Explorer".

6. When the "Explorer" dialog box opens, locate the folder on the left-hand side called "Paprport" and double click on it, the contents of the
folder will now appear on the right-hand side.

7. From the "Edit" drop down menu select "Paste" to copy the file that was copied in step 4 into the Paprport folder.

8. Close all open windows and restart the computer.

Thumbs up It worked!!

Glc, Thanks for the info and reply. I discovered that last night myself, and it worked!! Why didn't I have this problem prior to installing Window ME? It worked great with windows 95.

Thanks again Glc and all of you.

God Bless, Robert J.

Probably because the version of shlwapi.dll in 95 was compatible with the Paperport version. ME installed a new shlwapi.dll in \windows\system. My sister had this *exact* problem with 98 and her Visioneer USB scanner after she did a major Windows Update, which is why I knew where to find the answer. I am guessing that it's IE 5.5 that did it in.
