Windows Protection Error

I installed a local printer (LPT connection) on a windows 98 computer. I already had the driver on the computer (pointing to the same model printer on the network)

Ever since that installation, I get a 'Windows Protection Error' when trying to start up. I can only get to Windows in Safe mode.
While in safe mode, I removed that printer from the printer section of control panel.

I have printed MS Knowledge Base article Q149962 and will go back to work on it shortly--but in case I can't figure it out, what should I likely be looking for.
