i have installed my windows 98se again yesterday. when i try to install office 2000 and fireburner i get an error message saying 'msiexec has caused an error in module ..' and i terminates installation. it seems to be windows installer. is ther any fix for this or do i need to reinstall windows again?
i tried the msiinst form the office 2000 disc but it gives the same error message when i double click the file.

Hi grasshopperbe,

I would try using just 1 stick of RAM for now...or replace your existing RAM.

Hi grasshopperbe

I hope this article doesn't apply to your situation, but it might (use your AntiVirus scanner as soon as you can for a thorough scan = it may be a virus called "Win95.cih")

I believe that link is a mirror copy of the original MSKB article.

yep like newme said it was w95.cih. seriously infected my system
(pretty much most .exe's and so). my sisters boyfriend ran kill_cih and clean_cih, then we installed avg control center( install file always corrupted during virus intrusion)it found a heap of files(a few hundred i believe) that were infected. we did see a few filenames that had other virus names but after running the avg control and housecall it seems to be somewhat clean.
i also did sfc(system file check) for my system files and all seems ok(it also gave errors when i was infected) going to format in some days anyhow just to be on the safe side, first get all my backup material together.
the most annoying now is that my dads outlook starts up very slow now(or is that because of avg ?),

thanks very much for all the help
