I would assume if it does not work in 2000 then how would you access it; you couldn't. But that's assuming it's not available.

Hi TEEB,

In W2K you can also determine some of the programs which load at Startup by looking at the Programs submenu of the Start Menu.

If you don't want a program to start automatically, then just drag it from the submenu to another location on the Start Menu. You'll still be able to access the program by clicking on it's name on the Start Menu in the usual way.

However, not all programs that start automatically are shown in the submenu. To see the others Start Menu>Systems Tools>System Information.

In the left-hand pane, double-click on the Software Environment to expand it.

Click on Startup Programs.

Although most need to be started with Windows, if you find one doesn't, then you may be able to stop it starting automatically by disabling the startup option in the actual program's options.

If you're using the program that Doc suggested you won't need to do any of this; however, it's useful to know.

HTH

A great little utility to put away for future use is also Autoruns from Sysinternals.com. It will show you ALL the applications that get started automatically and allow you to jump to any of them whether they are in the Registry or one of the start up folders. VERY handy.

Hi TEEB

Here's another article for the next time a 2k box winds up on your doorstep:

http://www.infopackets.com/freenewsa...ndows+2000.htm

Very similiar to the above posts, with the additional mention of PC Magazine's Startup Cop, which is supposed to be pretty handy, and much like msconfig. (It's a free download) Isn't it wierd that msconfig reappears in XP? 2k is only recent MS OS that doesn't have it. Go figure.

. . . Gary

[I was once better too, but don't remember much about it]

Yes Gary, I used Startup Cop on Win95 and it worked very well.

It's been around for a long time and has a good reputation.
