Cobra,

View > Status Bar and then hold the CTL key and click the close box.

Or you can do Regedit
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main and set Show_Statusbar to "yes".

Hope that helps.

well, if I click on IE icon to get another window it works, but I usually hit control "n" to get a new one, and that does not seem to work

Then try this.

Open IE.
Open a new window.
Close the original window.
View > Status Bar.
Hold CTL and close the window using the close box.
Reboot and try it again.

Hope that helps.

Don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try.

In Internet Explorer click on "View" and make sure there is a check mark next to "Status Bar".
Minimize this window, (don't close it).
Open up Windows Explorer and again click on "View" and place a check mark next to "Status Bar".
Then on that same Windows Explorer page, click on Tools>Folder Options>View and click on "Apply To All Folders".
