CRASH problem with XP clean install

when i try to install win XP home i get a blue screen during setup that says::

A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then it says some stuff on BIOS shadowing or new hardware.

i disabled shadowing in BIOS and i do not have any new hardware on the computer. I am gonna try to take out everything cept 1 stick of ram and the video card if it still does this what do you guys suggest ?

yea the system in the sig is the one im putting XP on.

ok i got the latest BIOS...checked out that website. when i tried again this time i got a message saying i should try to change vid cards.....done that now i have a message that says ::

"the problem seems to be cause by the following file : 1brtfdc.sys
the driver mistakenly marked a part of it's image pagable instead of nonpagable.

I tried to install it again without any changes and im back to the 1st error ?

Hi Orezbus12,

What video cards have you tried?

Did XP Upgrade Advisor point out any potential problems during Setup?

You may have marginal/defective/incompatible ram or misconfigured ram timings in the bios.

i have tried a TNT2 and an old Voodoo 3 . i have not changed any ram settings in BIOS. XP uprgade advisor ? im not to familiar with win XP but the installer was giving some errors and a general list of things to check. i am installing this on a formated HD. The same ram i have installed in the PC ran win 2k before then all of a sudden you cant install win 2k or win XP but win98 works fine ?

I would download SeaTools and run full diags on the hard drive - if it checks out good, use the "write zeros" or "low level format" option to wipe it completely clean and let XP setup do the partitioning and formatting.
