OK Fellas,
Here's my first ?, have winxp pro ,maxtor 30 7200,512 ddrpc2700, 64 meg GEForce video,Board is an ASUS A7S333. Had been working fine until i could hear a faint metal tap every 2 seconds,went into bios setup,HDD is listed under AUTO, under boot sequence,i have cd,floppy,hdd and where hdd was,now it shows none,during POST,it doesnt show it.got an error stating "DISK ERROR" SO I WENT BACK IN and tried entering manual but couldnt edit other settings for HDD, finally got it to boot all the way thru,ping is gone,however i have a thought that maybe my floppy is the guilty one w/noise? but i still dont understand why my hard disk is not listed,help.. BTW have been reading here quite a bit,you folks are awesome thanks |

Hi greenlite,
Welcome to PC Mech. Go to the Maxtor website and download the hard drive diagnostic utilities and test the hard drive out. Sounds like it might be going.  Cricket

I agree with Cricket, it does sound like the HDD is going and not the FDD.
