Windows XP in Russinan(?)
My sister has a problem with her computer, it is displaying simbolys instead of regular text, I cant read anything besides what is in the internet window(and some other windows). What should be done?
We have considered re-installing, but we want to keep all her KaZaA and other files. TIA, Logan

Have you looked at the Regional Settings in the control panel? If the words are gibberish, it is the planet icon.

Sorry about that doc, I didn't really mean in a different language, or at least it sure doesn't look like another language.
I cant read much of anything. Logan |

Could you post a screenshot of it?

I dont remember the details on how to post a screen shot, but there are no letters.
We can type in Word and have normal text, which will print in gibberish, so we can sorta kinda decipher everything else. Ran a virus scan, could read housecall and it said it had TROJ DELWIN.G, looked that up on the web and it said something about disconnectiong your current line and dialing a 1-900 number, but she doesn't use a modem(I don't this thing is hooked to any phone) Another virus scan looked like it could have ben different, but it ended up stating the virus in "gibberish". Any ideas? TIA, Logan |

That doesn't sound good. Have you tried scanning with another anti-virus program, or a trojan scanner? It sounds like you have been hit with something nasty.
To make a screenshot, just hit the Print Screen button. That will copy the screen to the clipboard, and then you can go to a program like Paint or any graphics editor and paste the contents of the clipboard. |

File too big, and I don't think I can find any easy way to convert it to something smaller(like .jpg).

Open it again in paint and click save as change the file types to jpg, that will compress it somewhat.

Should of got that earlier, but I'm not sure that would have compressed the file enough. Anyways, I'm now back 80miles away from the horrid PC, and she knows someone else who will help her(she still believes all the music and apps. they put on "the old PC" didn't mess it up, but instead *I* messed it up
