ulp, disabled compatability wizard
I can't get my Program Compatibility Wizard to run (it's in the accessories program menu). I need it to try to get an old windows 95 game -- Sanitarium -- to work on XP.
I used the Black Viper guide to disable a lot of non-essential services. I've also used registry cleaning software. Tried to re-enable, etc, but no luck. Between these two I think I may have bollocksed up the Compatibility Wizard. Any suggestions? Much appreciated. |

This is just a guess, since I've no XP system around here . . . but see if you can click on the executable for your game and select Compatibility Mode from the Properties list.
Otherwise, hmm. . . might have to try adding it back in from Add/Remove, Windows Setup? (or whatever it looks like in the XP control panel) Good luck! . . . Gary |

actually, you're right -- the wizard doesn't do anything you can't get by clicking on "properties" and "compatibility" for the file itself. It was wishful thinking on my part, as I've tried everything in terms of properties -- compatibility settings, and still can't get the game to run.

Seems like if it's a Win95 game, it should have a chance of running eventually. You might try a Google search to see if there's a gaming forum just for that game.
I looked around for a bit, didn't find any forums with any real activity (if it makes you feel better having company, a few had posts asking for help running Sanitarium in WinXP - to which there were no replies) - - - BUT I did find a very cool link to an article written by one of the authors of the game. If you're a fan of the game, check it out: http://www.gamasutra.com/features/pr...ni_post_01.htm Best of luck . . . Gary |

There is a completely different code for Windows 2000 and XP than there was with the 95 & 98 series It is NT based. Some older games do not work with the different code base as some scanners ect.
