serious problems with win2000, ie 5 is this a virus?
hi,
i'm having some major problems with win2000, and i don't have an antivirus program so i wanted to know if this is because of a virus or do i need to download some sort of update from microsoft? the problem is i have javascript enabled in ie but all sites i go to that need it tell me it' s not enabled, but i checked and it is. also i was able to go to places such as hotmail 2 days ago but not now. i decided to repair ie but when i go to add/remove programs i only get a blank screen, the close button does not work on it either, it shows up as CL&OSE. Also Find (CTRL + F) in ie does not work, it comes up but the find button never enables, no matter how much text i type into the field. I'm assuming it's a virus, with ie or win2000, i downloaded netscape 7 and that works perfectly, no javascript problems. any ideas? i'm planning to purchase norton antivirus this coming week to make sure. Thank you. |

There are alot of online scanners available to use until or even after you get Norton. PCPITSTOP has a virus scanning system available and it is free but there are many more if you really want to find out go and check out the free 1's some do nothing more than scan and do not fix your problem but there are many available fixes available again for free to get rid of the nastys.

If you get the Norton antivirus package, make sure to boot from the Norton CD so it can do a complete system check Before it installs (that keeps a virus from compromizing the install).
And once Norton is up & running, you have the option of downloading IE6 SP1: it's been pretty stable from all the feedback and experience I've had with it so far. Netscape 7 is fine too. . . . Gary |
