Cool How to transfer 98 files to xp home

I dont know if this is the right area, but I need help. I built a new system using xp home and my old system is 98. Everything is new inside the case. What I was trying to do is install my old harddrive as a slave to transfer my files. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I can see it in the add new hardware, but i cannot access it. do I need to do something else before xp loads to get at win98, or should you be able to see it in xp. I have never done this before. HELP

Larry

do you have the jumpers correct on the added drive. It should be set to CS and on the middle connecter on the IDE cable.

Is the HD cable 3 differnet colors if yes then set it like i said if not and they are all the same color then set it to master for you prim HD and slave for the new HD

you should be able to access the info then '

what are your specs>\

Hi Bones,

If all you want to do is to transfer data files from the old hard drive to the new one, as long as you have the hard drive connected to the computer properly you should be able to access the old hard drive through WinXP Explorer.

Make sure your connections and jumpers are set up correctly and check to see that the drive is recognized in BIOS.

You shouldn't have to do anything special to WinXP in order to access the old hard drive.
