Lightbulb Win2000 slow on desktop loading...

Hello,
I noticed everytime I start/restart the comp and when it's about to go into the desktop that it takes longer to load than it used to....noticed the difference after swapping the original Mitsumi CD-Rom for a LiteOn CD-RW by just unplug-plug method...

the only new programs on the task bar after noticing the slow downs are Quicktime(which I just took off) and Zone Alarm...
what do you all think is the problem?

2000 was never fast at loading to begin with, but any time you add any software that loads at startup will slow the process down and my bet would be that ZA is part of the problem.

Yes, ZA does add to the load time considerably. Also, the more icons on the desktop, the longer it takes to load.

Hello,
Win2000 probably weren't very fast at loading, but I know that it was way faster before.I removed 5-7 icons on the desktop and disabled one of those quicklaunch things, they didn't help.I also defraged and it also didn't help.Is there any other things that could be causing this?

Do you still have Zone Alarm installed? Like Glc and I have stated this will slow the load time quite a bit as it takes a hit on the system at startup. You could disable it to load at startup and see if it makes a difference, just don't forget to manually start it.
