Hello everyone,
For some strange reason, after changing my motherboard (and doing a Windows XP repair) my dial up networking connection disappeared. The modem was removed during windows XP installation, but I put it back in later, and Windows XP detected and installed the proper drivers for it. So the modem should be working okay, right? The problem I have is when I try to set up a new internet connection through the "internet connection wizard", I get an error message. The message occurs when I try to type a name in for the "Connection Name" step of the process at which point it tells me: "NOT A VALID NAME. The entry name must contain at least one character that is not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a different name." I get this message no matter what I type in, and the ISP says they've never heard of this problem, and they think its a problem with windows XP. I'm thinking maybe there's something in the registry left over from my previous windows installation, maybe refering to an internet connection that no longer exists and theres an error because of that or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you, Geron Bindseil |

Go into Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components.
Remove Dial-up-networking from the Communications tab. Restart the computer. Try running the wizard from the Start > Run > "inetwiz". This should prompt for the XP CD to reinstall DUN, and should solve it. |
