Virus?

Hello,

The family system that I built has been acting strange lately; the CPU usage spikes to 100% at odd/random times, slowing the system down so it's unusable. The funny thing is, I look at the processes running, and there's nothing out of the ordinary! First I suspected a virus, so I scanned with PC-Cillin. It found nothing. Then, I look in the Virus Log. Lo and behold, the W32.KLEZ.H virus had infected the system a few days ago. According to PC_Cillin, the Clean attempt failed, and the Quarantine attempt also failed. Could it still be lurking? I can't find it through a virus scan, but the suspicious CPU activity continues. I'm this close to reformatting, as it makes the system unusable. I did a system restore to the day before the system was infected, and even though that's not supposed to rescue you from a virus, it seems to have worked. If it hasn't, then I'm going to have to reformatt, I guess. Any tips? Thanks.....

You might go over to Symantec's site and download the Klez removal tool. That will tell you if Klez is still lurking and remove it also.

Or go to Trend Micro and use their removal tool.

Used the Trend Micro tool, didn't find anything. I guess there's no infection after all. Thanks for the help!

OK, spoke too soon. Almost every game that my brothers try to play on the system freezes up instantly, CPU usage spikes randomly, I'm gonna take the plunge and reformat later......
