Thumbs up Searching with Windows XP

I'll try to describe this as best I can!

You know when your at a search box usually you only have to type in 1 letter and the rest of the word appears then you simply select the word well I recently had to reformat and now I always have to type in the whole word every time. Never had to do that before...

Is there an easy solution to this? Changing a setting of some sort?

I'll assume that you click start, search. Get a search window with "What do you want to search for?" menu on the left, with a dog at the bottom. Right above the dog is change preferences. It has turn on/off autocomplete. That might be what you want.
