Set new password for networking in Win2k
I have 2 computers sharing a broadband connection with Netgear router. From my win2k machine I can access my Win ME machines files. From the Win ME machine I get the message I do not have access, see system administrator. I am the system administrator but I don't know where the settings are in Win2k. The computer is an offlease office computer that had most of the settings wiped out. Where do I go to change settings?
Thanks |

You need to add a user account to the Windows 2000 machine in Control Panel --> Users and Passwords
Then when you log into ME log in with the already created Username and Password You may also be required to right click and goto Sharing on certain folders etc if you wish the other computer to be able to see them Jim |

To add the user into the 2K box you need to go to Administrative tools > Computer Management > Local Users and Groups, right click on the Users folder and select “New User” and enter the info. If the ME box doesn’t have a password to log on, don’t enter one on the new user account.

Jim, as you know there is more than one-way to things with windows and the way I gave is the way that I have learned. Plus it allows you to see what other users have been added. Not to mention I believe it is the correct way to add users in Microsoft land when dealing with MCSA/MCSE certs.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend...
![]() Agreed there is more than one way to do things in windows but both are exactly the same are they not? You can see Users and Groups etc who has been added etc Again, I don't mean for you to get angry I just wish to clarify Jim |

Thank you for your reply. A simple solution that worked. I can now access files from either or.
Thanks again, Scott |
