What program are you using to watch the DVD? I would make sure that you dont have to many other programs running in the backround by either using the 'ctrl-alt-del' method or by using 'msconfig' and going to the startup tab and unchecking any programs that you dont need to load up when you boot your computer, they will still work, they just will not load up when you turn your computer on.

I use PowerDVD by Cyberlink 3.0 and even though it said compatible with XP I still got a skip not all the time but once in a while. I had to go to the site and get another driver for XP. Which fixed the problem. I have a LG DVD-Rom DRD8.

I need more info.
Is this a new rig?
Did the DVD work before?
Does it work for music CDs or data CDs and only glitch on movies?
Have you added anything to your comp., software or hardware?
Is it hooked as master or slave?
Is it on IDE 1 or 2?
Is DMA enabled for the drive?
Have you tried cleaning the drive with compressed air?
Are you running XP with an older version of a dvd program or are you trying to use the dvd player windows gives?
Sierrawolf's and ssahl's sugestions are all good but with a little more info we'd have a better shot at a solution.

I would bet that if it's not a dirty CD you could probably go into 'msconfig' and go to the startup tab and shutdown a few programs so that they dont load when you boot your computer (they will still work) you will notice a pretty big difference in performence.
