Problem re-installing Word 97 in Win98
I recently had to troubleshoot a friends computer after 2nd HD installed. After we got Win98 to read HD as 40 gig we went to clean up dead programs and move other programs out of start-up. After the massive clean-up it appears the registry died on re-boot. Instead of moving over all files from the old HD, we started re-installing all the programs that were going to be used on the new HD. We did it this way to keep the new install of windows as clean as possible and not transfer over extraneous files and registry entries. We have only run into 1 major problem doing this. All the computer program discs were put into 1 cd case. Unfortunately the cd key was not kept with the Word97 disc.
Is there any way to copy this info over from the old HD or at least find it so I can enter it in during install? |

If you can open word on the old hard drive the number will be under help, about microsoft word. If you can't run word then I don't think there is a way to get the number.

Excellent thank you. Yes all the files are available on the old hard drive. The idea is to move everything that is to be kept to the new and then wipe and reformet the old and just use it as storage or possibly as the back-up destination.
