XP and new bootup
I am building a new computer and installed the XP disc in the cdrom drive. It got to a point where it said to press "enter" to continue. I pressed "enter" but nothing happened. Shut the machine down and tried again, but cannot get past the "verifying DMI pool data......" line at the startup.
Any thoughts on this?? |

Check all of your IDE cables on your CD-ROM(s) and hard drives(s). Make sure your jumpers are configured correctly for the position of the drives on the IDE cable. Make sure they are all seated firmly into place on the drives and the motherboard.

I've done all of that already, also, cleared CMOS.
I see that the CPU speed is not reading correctly on the startup screen. Possibly I have a bad CPU or need to reflash the bios. Do you know anywhere on this forum where there might be instructions for making a "bootable floppy disk"? |

This is one of the best resources I have found for boot disks:

Found one on the Soyo website, but I cannot get it to boot from the floppy. All I get is an error message for "non-system disk.
When I first began loading XP it went quite a ways downloading some stuff and then when it got to the point of enter to contiue, on a blue screen, nothing would happen when I pushed enter. I even tried changing keyboards but no luck. |

I think I've solved the problem. Went back to the setup and disabled all boot devices except the cd rom drive (set it to first) and now everything seems to be working ok.
Thanks for you replies. |
