ME Loses Compressed File Password

Like the subject reads, my friend has compressed some of her files and password protected them all, using the same password, but none of the files will open. She also says she chose the 'encrypt' option. She has been able to open them before, but now she can't. She used the built-in compression in ME to compress the files, so I'm pretty sure there should be an encrypted string in the registry or some file (or possibly unencrypted) but I have no idea where to look, if ME did change the password by itself, is there a default that it might use?

Basically, is there anyway around using the ME password to get into password protected ME compressed files.
