I've been looking around for awhile but have been unable to find an answer for my question.
i was wondering how to find the shortcuts for the menu when you right click the start button, right now i have open, explore, properties, etc., Where can i change them, get rid of some of them, or add some???? any suggestions? thanks jon |

Hi jon,
Right click on the actual program items in the start menu, you can then delete them from there. |

i'm not exactly sure i got what you mean jon but if you want to customize start menu in xp, right-click on the task bar and go to properties-start menu tab-customize from there.

It depends upon the OS that you are running and your rights. Everyone on Windows 9x has the same start menu. In NT, 2K, and XP, there is one for the All Users and the Individual user. So if you are not logged in as an Admin, you can only change those programs in your start menu. If you are logged in as Admin, then you can change both your start menu and the All Users start menu. So if you right-click on the start menu and select OPEN, then you are making changes on just your Start menu. If you select Open All Users, then you changes will be for all users. If you don't see Open All Users, you don't have specific rights to change it.

What options are you looking to change? Humor us with an example, by the looks of what you are suggesting it might seem like what you desire might require a helluva lot of changes, something that might not get accomodated.
In general the start button right click menu follows similar properties of folder properties. |

hey, well i'll humor you... i changed the explorer shortcut under the accesories menu so that it opens to the root directories instead of going straight to my documents, but i can't find where to change it for the right click shortcut... do u know what i mean now?

I know exactly what you mean, but I can't find it anywhere to change it either. It's probably buried in a .dll in c:\windows\system32 somewhere...I used to know how to do this in 98...

I believe what you're referring to is the "Context Menu" rather than the "Start Menu". There are many 3rd party applications that will allow you to edit the entries in the context menu. Here is one of them www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,3229,00.asp
I have not used any of them so I can't tell you which is the best one to get. |

I agree with reboot... there is not going to be a straight answer for this... I dont think its as simple as to editing the registry....
I would try downloading the program onyx has giving a link 2..

Most programs of that sort will allow you to edit the explorer context menu (yes, that's what it's called), but NOT the Start button context menu.
Like I said, I know it's buried deep, and I once found it in Win98, but can't seem to get anything in XP on it. |
