Change/add symbols to keyboard ?

Am I nuts or did old Win3.1 have some facility up in Accessories where you could change some hardly ever used key into something you need ?
Like change { or [ for the small 0 that signifies degrees of temperature, or get a pound sign for UK money .

Is there some small program to do that for 98SE ?
Thanks,
Chris.

There are 4-number combonation ASCII codes you can punch in using your alt-key and number pad for certain symbols. I couldn't find anything else though.

Well I searched up on the shareware and freeware sites and there is a lot of large and expensive software out there and it all only works in Note and Wordpad or MSWorks.
If you just want all those foreign language accents, tildes, O's with slashes through them etc, 'Latin Key' by Fanix.com is free,
small and looks great.
I mainly want a British currency pound sign for Eudora emails.
Where can I get more info about Ascii ? That could be a possibility.

Chris

Can't be done!

I just did a search of newsgroups and found that this was a hot topic some time back. If you use some accii combination like alt-156 it will not survive passage through servers, and is useless for email. GBP followed by the number is what is being used.

Cheers,
Chris.

Last week a member gave me 4 buttons to push for the degree symbol but I didn't realize I need to use the alt button. Now I can't find the thread.... Parangles, do you know what they are or where I can find a list of all of them?
TIA

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess using the software proggy's Help can actually be a help. Even on MS Word!
So, I just reprogrammed ctrl+6 to make the degree symbol, I mean who needs to use ^?

OK ! Here's one way . Hold down 'alt' key and type 0163 on the NUMERIC pad on the right side of the keyboard and after a delay of a few seconds you will get a pound sign.
( Well not here, or in email, but in your word processor)
For fractions , temp.degrees , and others, see Character Map here:
