I have some old humorous Mpeg Avi Mpg type files..most of which will play in Realplayer, but only a small minority will play in WMP ( even the latest version ! )
I keep getting an error message with Invalid Page Fault which mentions the Mmswitch.ax file in Windows/System which seems to be the culprit. The file is there ok...any ideas what may be wrong ? |

Hi shazam100
. . . and Welcome to Pc Mechanic. The error you are seeing seems to be related to an incompatibility with some audio filters and the "Morgan Stream Switcher" (mmswitch.ax) - which MediaPlayer probably uses. Here's a link to a page detailing one such filter "TFM Filter" (tfm.ro) http://www.tfm.ro/audiofilter/_detailes.html Scroll down to the bottom of that webpage to see what is probably an exact match to the error message you're seeing. One fix is to remove/disable the filter if you're not using it. Then the media should play OK. Best of luck . . . Gary [one other post, if I remember it right, had a member fix it by uninstalling the filter in WinAmp - but I'm a little fuzzy on that, since it was a while back] ____ [Update - Ok, I decided not to be hopelessly lazy, and looked up the older post. Turns out the member had acquired the file as part of downloading codecs for playing DivX. He doesn't mention how he got rid of the file - I would imagine that uninstalling the offending codec probably did it . . . ] Last edited by GaryRouth; 11-19-2002 at 03:31 AM. |
